How to Cook Tasty Food Using an Electric Smoker

An electric smoker is anequipment that enables flavoring, cooking and preserving food by exposing it to smoke from electricity. The most common foods that are smoked include meat and fish. Even though cheese, vegetables and ingredients used to make beverages like beer, smoked beer and tea are also smoked. The smoking process involves cooking meat at low temperatures for long periods of time preventing it from spoiling while adding flavor.

If you love the taste of smoked, you may want to try an electric smoker. Many people would love to cook using an electric smoker, but don’t know what to do. Here are the things that you will need beforehand; electric smoker, meat, cooking oil, dry rub or marinade, water, meat thermometer and wood chips. The following are the guidelines to cook using the machine, per the electric smoker guide from Best Reviews Advisor:

  1. Before cooking with the machine, make sure you season it. The process removes dust, odors and solvents, while preparing to cook the food.
  • Do coat the indoor surfaces and racks of the machine with cooking oil.
  • Then turn the smoker on and let it run for 2 hours. After that, make sure you turn it off, as you open the hood to let it cool off.
  1. Prepare the meat or fish to be cooked. This is the usual process of slicing the meat and keeping it into the right form before smoking.
  2. Season the meat using a dry rub like salt, sugar and herbs when you choose to use the electric smoker.
  3. Let the meat sit in the seasonings overnight to absorb flavor. This is very important for absorbing the necessary flavor assigned.
  4. Then turn the smoker on. Check and use the turn on buttons to switch the machine to life. Make sure the power is available during the smoking period.
  5. Then purchase wood chips. You can get wood chips at a hardware shop or online if you can order them conveniently. You can also obtain them from a grocery shop.
  • Then add cedar, plum, alder, cherry, hickory or maple chips to the wood chip container. This will require you to get upto 4 cups of wood chips for every 3 to 5 hours of smoking when using an electric smoker.
  1. Keep checking the temperature of the smoker. It is very important that you monitor the internal temperature while cooking with the electric smoker. Many of them usually come with an internal temperature gauge.
  • Make sure that you adjust the temperature control. Some of them have a dial to turn the temperatures up or down with others set to specific high point such as 106.71 C.
  • Then wait for the smoker to attain the desired temperature. Don’t start smoking the meat until the correct temperatureis obtained.
  1. When the correct temperature has been attained, put the meat on the smoker rack. Keep smoking the meat until it is tender and soft. The process may take 3 to 8 hours. You can check if the food is ready through inserting a meat thermometer into the center of the meat.
